Removal and Installation

NOTE: The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system, including: whenever the roof opening panel motor has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel glass has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel assembly has been removed from the vehicle, a new roof opening panel motor has been installed, a new roof opening panel glass has been installed or a new roof opening panel assembly has been installed. For additional information, refer to ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR INITIALIZATION .
NOTE: Anytime a roof opening panel motor is removed, the cables/mechanisms can experience free-play movement. It is important that the cables do not move. They are timed to be parallel with each other. If one or both are moved in either direction, they must be re-timed. For additional information, refer to TIMING ADJUSTMENT .

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the A-pillars, B-pillars, C-pillars, D-pillars and quarter trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  2. Position aside the front and rear door weatherstrips.
  3. Remove the side curtain air bag-to-A-pillar bracket pin-type retainers.

  4. Remove the A-pillar bracket retainer bolts and remove the A-pillar bracket.

  5. If equipped, remove the DVD entertainment system. For additional information, refer to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS .
  6. Vehicles equipped with glass roof 

  7. Remove the rear dome lamp.
    • Using a non-marring tool, pry down from the rear of the dome lamp.

  8. Disconnect the dome lamp electrical connector.
    • Feed the dome lamp electrical connector through the dome lamp housing.

  9. All vehicles 

  10. Remove the assist handles, sunvisors and sunvisor clips. For additional information, refer to Exploded View in INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  11. Vehicles without glass roof 

  12. Remove the center dome lamp assembly lens.

  13. Pull downward on the front of the center dome lamp assembly to release the retainer clips.

  14. Disconnect the center dome lamp electrical connector.
    • Feed the dome lamp electrical connector through the dome lamp housing.

  15. Vehicles equipped with glass roof 

  16. Pull downward on the sunshade frame at the rear of the back window opening panel to release the sunshade frame pin-type retainers.

  17. All vehicles 

  18. Release the rear headliner pin-type retainers.

  19. NOTE: Plug the rear wiper washer hose to avoid washer fluid leakage.

    Disconnect the rear wiper washer hose.

  20. Disconnect the front headliner electrical connector.

  21. Remove the overhead console. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  22. Disconnect the mirror electrical connector.

  23. Lower the headliner.
  24. Disconnect the 4 roof opening panel drain hoses from the corners of the roof opening panel frame.
  25. NOTE: To avoid damage to the roof opening panel frame, be sure to support the roof opening panel frame when removing the roof opening panel frame bolts.

    Remove the 12 roof opening panel frame bolts.

    • To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  26. Remove the roof opening panel frame.
  27. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • If installing a new roof opening panel frame, transfer components as necessary.
    • Initialize the roof opening panel motor. For additional information, refer to ROOF OPENING PANEL MOTOR INITIALIZATION .
