Seat Backrest Cover - With Fold Flat: Removal

WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy® or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side air bags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
  1. Remove the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT - FRONT .
  2. Remove the 2 head restraint guides sleeves. For additional information, refer to HEAD RESTRAINT GUIDE SLEEVE .
  3. Remove the inboard recliner lower cover.
    1. Remove the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.
    2. Remove the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.
    3. Pull out at the rear of the inboard recliner lower cover to release the retainers and remove.

  4. Remove the inboard recliner upper cover.
    1. Pull at the front and release the clip.
    2. Rotate the inboard recliner upper cover clockwise and remove.

  5. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar handle.
    1. Push the cushion trim cover and foam pad back and locate the manual lumbar handle clip under the cushion side shield.
    2. Remove the clip and slide the manual lumbar handle off the shaft.

  6. NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of cushion side shield shown.
  7. Separate the cushion side shield.
    1. Remove the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.
    2. Remove the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.
    3. Remove the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.
    4. Pull out on the cushion side shield to release the clips and separate.

  8. Remove the outboard recliner upper cover.
    1. Pull at the front and release the clip.
    2. Pivot the top of the outboard recliner upper cover back and remove.
      • Pull the fold-flat release strap out through the opening.

  9. Using the strap on the outboard recliner, fold the backrest down to the fold-flat position.
  10. Separate the wire harness and cable retainers.
    1. Remove the pin-type retainer, release all the outboard cushion trim cover J-clips and position the cushion trim cover flap up.
    2. If equipped, separate the manual lumbar cable retainers.
    3. If equipped, pull the manual lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.
    4. Separate the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainers.
      • Route the side air bag module wire harness out from under the seat.
    5. Separate the outboard fold-flat cable retainer and cover from the outboard recliner.

  11. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster in the following sequence.
    • Pull the lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.
    • Remove the cable end from the adjuster.

  12. Separate the fold-flat cable retainer and cover from the inboard recliner.

  13. Separate the backrest trim cover lower J-clips.
  14. Release the backrest trim cover clips and open the zippers.

  15. Seats with power seat track, disconnect electrical connectors and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.
    1. Separate the connector and wire harness retainers.
    2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.
    3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.
    4. Disconnect the backrest feed electrical connector.

  16. Seats with manual seat track, disconnect the electrical connector and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.
    1. Separate the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.
    2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.
    3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

  17. Route the wire harness out from under the seat.
  18. Position the backrest trim cover aside and remove the 4 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts (2 shown).
    • Remove the backrest.

  19. Invert the backrest trim cover up and remove the first row of hog rings.

  20. Invert the backrest trim cover up to expose the side air bag module deployment chute.
    • Feed the fold-flat cable, (if equipped) lumbar cable and backrest wire harness through the side openings of the backrest trim cover.
  21. Squeeze the ends of the deployment chute clips together and open the deployment chute.

  22. Invert the backrest trim cover up and remove the second row of hog rings.

  23. From the rear of the backrest, separate the backrest trim cover J-clip attached to the backrest frame wire.

  24. Invert the backrest trim cover up and pull the deployment chute through the backrest foam pad.
  25. Remove the backrest trim cover.
