Seat Backrest Cover - With Fold Flat: Installation

WARNING: Inspect the seat side air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad for any foreign material. If any foreign material is found, remove it. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING: Check the seat side air bag deployment chute for damage. The deployment chute must not be repaired. If there is any damage to the deployment chute, a new seat back trim cover and deployment chute must be installed as a unit. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
  1. With the backrest trim cover inside out, position the backrest trim cover to the backrest foam pad and frame assembly.
    • Align the head restraint holes in the backrest trim cover to the holes in the backrest foam pad and frame.
  2. Roll the backrest trim cover down and position the deployment chute through the backrest foam pad opening.

  3. WARNING: If the seat side air bag module deployment chute is not correctly positioned, the seat side air bag may not deploy correctly. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the seat side air bag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
  4. Position the deployment chute around the side air bag module.
    1. Insert the outboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the side air bag module, pulling it around the outboard side of the backrest frame.
    2. Insert the inboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the backrest frame, pulling it around the inboard side of the backrest frame.

  5. Engage the side air bag deployment chute retaining clips and snap them together.
    • The side air bag deployment chute must encircle the side air bag module, going completely around the side air bag module and the side of the backrest frame.
    • Align the side air bag deployment chute to the side air bag module, making sure it is centered around the side air bag module.

  6. From the rear of the backrest, attach the backrest trim cover J-clip to the backrest frame wire.

  7. Roll the backrest trim cover down and install the 3 second row hog rings.

  8. Roll the backrest trim cover down and install the 3 first row hog rings.

  9. Roll the backrest trim cover all the way down.
  10. Route the wire harness and cables out through the sides of backrest trim cover.
  11. Position the backrest assembly and install the 2 outboard recliner-to-backrest frame bolts finger-tight.
    • Make sure the fold-flat cable, lumbar cable (if equipped) and backrest feed wire harness (if equipped) are routed out through the backrest trim cover before installing the bolts.

  12. Position the backrest assembly and install the 2 inboard recliner-to-backrest frame bolts finger-tight.
    • Make sure the fold-flat cable is routed out through the backrest trim cover before installing the inboard recliner.

  13. Install the 4 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts.
    • Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
  14. Attach the fold-flat cable retainer and cover to the inboard recliner.
  15. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable into the adjuster.
  16. Route and attach the wire harness and cable retainers in the following sequence.
    1. Attach the outboard fold-flat cable and cover to the recliner.
    2. Route and attach the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainers.
    3. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable cover into the adjuster.
    4. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable retainers.
  17. NOTE: Manual track shown, power track similar.

  18. Route the side air bag module wire harness under the seat.
  19. Position the cushion trim cover flap back around the side of the seat, attach all the outboard cushion trim cover J-clips and install the pin-type retainer.
  20. Seats with manual seat track, connect the electrical connector and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to SEAT WIRE HARNESS ROUTING .
    1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.
    2. Route the wire harness and attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.

  21. Seats with power seat track, connect electrical connectors and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to SEAT WIRE HARNESS ROUTING .
    1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.
    2. Connect the backrest feed electrical connector.
    3. Route the wire harness and attach the connectors and wire harness retainers.

  22. Close the zippers and attach the backrest trim cover retainers.

  23. Install the inboard upper recliner cover in the following sequence.
    1. Align the inboard upper recliner cover pocket to the recliner bracket.
    2. Pivot the top of the inboard upper recliner cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.
    3. Push in at the front and seat the clip.
  24. Install the inboard recliner lower cover in the following sequence.
    1. Align the inboard recliner lower cover to the inner cover and push in, seating the rear clips.
    2. Install the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.
    3. Install the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.
  25. Install the outboard recliner upper cover in the following sequence.
    1. Position the fold-flat release strap through the opening.
    2. Align the outboard recliner upper cover pocket to the recliner bracket.
    3. Pivot the top of the outboard recliner upper cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.
    4. Push in at the front and seat the clip.
  26. Attach the cushion side shield in the following sequence.
    1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before attaching to the seat.
    2. Align the cushion side shield clips to the seat and push in, seating the clips.
    3. Install the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.
    4. Install the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.
    5. Install the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.
  27. If equipped, install the manual lumbar handle in the following sequence.
    1. Install the clip onto the manual lumbar handle.
    2. Align the splines of the manual lumbar handle to the manual lumbar shaft.
    3. Push the manual lumbar handle onto the manual lumbar shaft, seating the clip.
  28. Install the 2 head restraint guide sleeves. For additional information, refer to HEAD RESTRAINT GUIDE SLEEVE .
  29. Install the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT - FRONT .
