Seat Backrest - Front, With Fold Flat: Assembly
- Seats with heat, position the wire harness and install the retainers.
- If equipped, position the static lumbar and install the retainers at the bottom.
- If equipped, position the static lumbar behind the backrest frame wire and install 2 new retainers.
- After installation, make sure the retainers are holding the static lumbar tightly against the backrest frame wire or squeaks can occur.
- If equipped, install the manual lumbar.
- Squeeze the manual lumbar retaining clips together on each side and install them to the backrest frame.
- Route the manual lumbar cable and attach the pin-type retainer.
- Inspect the side air bag module and mounting surfaces for any damage or foreign material.
- Remove any foreign material from the mounting surfaces of the deployment chute, the seat backrest frame mounting bracket and the air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad.
- Install new parts if damaged.
- Seats with heat, position the 2 side air bag module studs and locator pin through the backrest frame and install the 2 nuts.
- Position the side air bag module and install the 2 nuts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Route the wire harness, connect the electrical connector and attach the pin-type retainer.
- Position the side air bag module and install the 2 nuts.
- Inspect the side air bag module and mounting surfaces for any damage or foreign material.
- Remove any foreign material from the mounting surfaces of the deployment chute, the seat backrest frame mounting bracket and the air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad.
- Install new parts if damaged.
- Seats without heat, position the 2 side air bag module studs and locator pin through the backrest frame and install the 2 nuts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Seats without heat, position the side air bag wire harness and install the pin-type retainer.
- Position the fold-flat cable and install the pin-type retainers.
- Position the backrest frame assembly into the backrest foam pad.
- If equipped, connect the backrest heated seat mat and attach the connector pin-type retainer to the backrest frame.
- Route the fold-flat cable out from between the backrest frame and backrest foam pad at the inboard side of the backrest.
- If equipped, route the fold-flat cable, lumbar cable and backrest feed wire harness out from between the backrest frame and backrest foam pad at the outboard side of the backrest.
- With the backrest trim cover inside out, position the backrest trim cover to the backrest foam pad and frame assembly.
- Align the head restraint holes in the backrest trim cover to the holes in the backrest foam pad and frame.
- Roll the backrest trim cover down and position both ends of the deployment chute through the backrest foam pad opening.
- Position the deployment chute around the side air bag module.
- Insert the outboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the side air bag module, pulling it around the outboard side of the backrest frame.
- Insert the inboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the backrest frame, pulling it around the inboard side of the backrest frame.
- Engage the side air bag deployment chute retaining clips and snap them together.
- The side air bag deployment chute must encircle the side air bag module, going completely around the side air bag module and the side of the backrest frame.
- Align the side air bag deployment chute to the side air bag module, making sure it is centered around the side air bag module.
- From the rear of the backrest, attach the backrest trim cover J-clip to the backrest frame wire.
- Roll the backrest trim cover down and install the 3 second row hog rings.
- Roll the backrest trim cover down and install the 3 first row hog rings.
- Roll the backrest trim cover all the way down.
- Position the inboard recliner covers onto the inboard and outboard recliners and install 2 screws to each cover.
- Position the inboard recliner to the backrest frame and install the 2 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
- Make sure the fold-flat cable is routed out through the backrest trim cover before installing the inboard recliner.
- Attach the fold-flat cable retainer and cover to the inboard recliner.
- Position the outboard recliner to the backrest frame and install the 2 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
- If equipped, make sure the fold-flat cable, manual lumbar cable and backrest feed wire harness are routed out through the backrest trim cover before installing the inboard recliner.
- Attach the cables and wire harness to the outboard recliner.
- If equipped, attach the manual lumbar cable retainer to the outboard recliner.
- Attach the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainer to the outboard recliner.
- Attach the fold-flat cable retainer and cover to the outboard recliner.
- Close the zippers and attach the backrest trim cover retainers.
- Install the inboard upper recliner cover in the following sequence.
- Align the inboard upper recliner cover pocket to the recliner bracket.
- Pivot the top of the inboard upper recliner cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.
- Push in at the front and seat the clip.
- Install the outboard upper recliner cover in the following sequence.
- Position the fold-flat release strap through the opening.
- Align the outboard upper recliner cover pocket to the recliner bracket.
- Pivot the top of the outboard upper recliner cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.
- Push in at the front and seat the clip.
- Install the 2 head restraint guide sleeves. For additional information, refer to HEAD RESTRAINT GUIDE SLEEVE .
- Install the seat backrest. For additional information, refer to SEAT BACKREST - FRONT, WITH FOLD FLAT .
NOTE:
Always use new clips.

NOTE:
The side air bag modules are keyed left and right. If the side air bag module locator pin does not align to the backrest frame hole, the wrong side air bag module is being installed.

The side air bag modules are keyed left and right. If the side air bag module locator pin does not align to the backrest frame hole, the wrong side air bag module is being installed.

Inspect the seat side air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad for any foreign material. If any foreign material is found, remove it. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

Check the seat side air bag deployment chute for damage. The deployment chute must not be repaired. If there is any damage to the deployment chute, a new seat back trim cover and deployment chute must be installed as a unit. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
