Pinpoint Test B: The Wipers Are Inoperative - Rear Window

  1. B1 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW05 (BU) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between rear window wiper motor C476-6, circuit CRW05 (BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B6.
    • No  : GO to B2.
  2. B2 CHECK THE REAR WIPER RELAY 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Rear Wiper Relay.
    • Carry out the Relay component test for the BJB  rear wiper relay.

    Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing.

    • Did the rear wiper relay pass the component test? 
    • Yes  : GO to B3.
    • No  : INSTALL a new rear wiper relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW03 (VT/WH) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between BJB  rear wiper relay pin 85, circuit CRW03 (VT/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to B4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK CIRCUIT SBB25 (RD) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Measure the voltage between BJB  rear wiper relay pin 30, circuit SBB25 (RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to B5.
    • No  : VERIFY BJB  fuse 25 (25A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate System Wiring Diagram to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK REAR WIPER RELAY CIRCUIT GD120 (BK/GN) FOR GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between BJB  rear wiper relay pin 86, circuit GD120 (BK/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR open in circuit CRW05 (BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR open in circuit GD120 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK CIRCUIT GD149 (BK/GY) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between rear window wiper motor C476-5, circuit GD149 (BK/GY), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to B7.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202.
    • Carry out the Multifunction Switch component test.

    Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS for component testing.

    • Did the multifunction switch pass the component test? 
  8. B8 CHECK CIRCUIT GD114 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch C202-15, circuit GD114 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to B9.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. B9 CHECK CIRCUIT CRW21 (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between multifunction switch C202-13, circuit CRW21 (YE/VT), harness side and rear window wiper motor C476-3, circuit CRW21 (YE/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to B10.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. B10 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
    • corrosion.
    • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to WIPER MOTOR - REAR WINDOW .
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
