Rear Wheel Bearing & Axle Shaft Seal: Removal

  1. Remove the axle shaft. For additional information, refer to Axle Shaft .
  2. NOTE: If the wheel bearing oil seal is leaking, the axle housing vent may be plugged with foreign material.
    NOTE: If only the seal needs to be installed, use care to avoid damaging the seal bore.
  3. Remove the oil seal from the axle tube.
    • Discard the oil seal.
  4. Inspect the rear wheel bearing and axle shaft bear surface for wear or damage.
  5. If necessary, using the special tools, remove the rear wheel bearing.
