Output Shaft Seal: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. RWD vehicles 

  3. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT article.
  4. NOTE: The output shaft flange nut has been staked to prevent it from coming loose. Prior to removing the nut, remove the stake to prevent damage to the output shaft.
  5. Remove and discard the output shaft flange nut.

  7. Remove the output shaft flange.

  9. Using the special tools, remove the output shaft seal.

    4WD vehicles 

  11. Remove the transfer case. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE article.
  12. Using the special tools, remove the output shaft seal.
