Instrument Cluster (IC): Removal

All vehicles 

  1. If installing a new Instrument Cluster (IC), upload the IC configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION article, Programmable Module Installation (PMI).
  2. Lower the steering column to the lowest position.
  3. Remove the 3 screws and the lower steering column cover.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector for the brake pedal switch (if equipped).
  4. Navigator 

  5. Remove the 2 center IC finish panel screws.
  6. NOTE: The 2 tabs on the LH A/C register must be pressed to release the LH side of the A/C register from the instrument panel or damage to the center IC finish panel will occur.
    NOTE: The 2 tabs that retain the LH A/C register can be accessed from the backside of the instrument panel with the lower steering column cover removed.
  7. Press the 2 tabs on the outer edge of the LH A/C register while pulling the IC finish panel out from the instrument panel.
  8. Expedition 

  9. Remove the 2 screws and pull the center IC finish panel straight out to release the retainers.
  10. All vehicles 

  11. Disconnect the dimmer switch electrical connector.
  12. If equipped, disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor electrical connector and air tube from the IC finish panel and remove the finish panel.
  13. Remove the 4 screws and the IC.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
