SYSTEM/COMPONENT REFERENCE (Pinpoint Test unless noted)
  1. Verify the engine operates at normal temperature
  1. Visual. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE COOLING article or Step 2: No Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) Present Symptom Chart Index  to diagnose any cooling system concerns that are present.
  1. Verify correct coolant level and coolant concentration
  1. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE COOLING article for proper coolant concentrations and fill procedures.
  1. MAF Sensor
  1. refer to PINPOINT TEST DC - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor .
  1. Base Engine
  1. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE article.
  1. Fuel Delivery System
  1. refer to PINPOINT TEST HC - Fuel Delivery System .
  1. Secondary Ignition System
  1. For vehicles equipped with a coil pack ignition system, refer to PINPOINT TEST JC - Secondary Ignition (Coil Pack) .
  2. For all others, refer to PINPOINT TEST JB - Secondary Ignition (COP) .
  1. PCV System
  1. refer to PINPOINT TEST HG - Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System .
  1. Engine Oil Quality
  1. Visual
  1. Additional Testing
  1. refer to PINPOINT TEST Z - Intermittent .
