PINPOINT TEST G: DTCs C1279, C1280, C1281 AND C1282 - SENSOR CLUSTER FAULTS

CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
NOTE: The yaw rate sensor, lateral accelerometer and longitudinal accelerometer are integral to the accelerometer.
  1. G1 CARRY OUT THE RECALIBRATION PROCEDURE 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Clear the DTCs.
    • Carry out the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module sensor cluster recalibration procedure using the scan tool.
    • Retrieve the DTCs.
    • Are any DTCs retrieved or does the recalibration procedure indicate a fault? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G2.
    2. NO  : The ABS system is operating correctly. The condition may have been caused by an incomplete or inaccurate calibration.
  2. G2 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR OPENS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C155
    • Disconnect: Sensor Cluster C3073
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • ABS module C155-23, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-8, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-37, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-9, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-38, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-22, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. G3 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between ground and:
      • ABS module C155-8, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-9, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-22, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-23, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-37, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • ABS module C155-38, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. G4 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ground and:
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. NO  : Go to  G5.
  5. G5 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO EACH OTHER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DG), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-2, circuit 1577 (RD/LB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-3, circuit 1576 (TN/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side.
      • sensor cluster C3073-4, circuit 1578 (GY/BK), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between sensor cluster C3073-5, circuit 1579 (OG/RD), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. RECALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. G6 CHECK THE VOLTAGE FROM THE ABS MODULE 
    • Key in ON position.

      NOTE: Voltage must be tested within 2 seconds of key ON, engine OFF (KOEO). Repeat this step one time to verify.
    • Measure the voltage between sensor cluster C3073-1, circuit 1574 (DB), harness side and sensor cluster C3073-6, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
    • Is the voltage between 4.75 volts and 5.25 volts? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to Accelerometer . CARRY OUT the calibration procedure. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  G7.
  7. G7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the ABS connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect the ABS connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
