Removal And Installation
Adjustable pedal vehicles
- If equipped, disconnect the accelerator pedal-to-brake pedal cable from the adjustable brake pedal motor.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and turn the stoplamp switch clockwise to detach it from the brake pedal bracket.
- Remove the brake pedal arm pin and disconnect the brake booster push rod from the brake pedal arm.
- Remove the bulkhead sound insulator.
- Remove the 4 brake pedal bracket nuts.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 brake pedal bracket bolts and remove the brake pedal and bracket.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
The brake pedal and the accelerator pedal must be in the same position when installing a new cable or a new pedal. The pedals must be all the way forward or all the way rearward or damage to components may occur.
All vehicles
CAUTION:
Always remove the stoplamp switch with the brake pedal secured to the brake booster push rod and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Do not press or pull on the brake pedal when removing the switch or damage to the switch may occur.
CAUTION:
The stoplamp switch must be removed prior to removing the brake pedal and bracket, brake booster and associated mounting fasteners or damage to the switch may occur.
NOTE:
An 11 mm, 12-point socket or wrench can be used to compress the 2 tabs on the brake pedal arm pin.
CAUTION:
Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch. This switch must be installed with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing this switch with the brake pedal in any other position will result in incorrect adjustment and may damage the switch.
