Removal and Installation

WARNING: Use of any other than approved DOT 3 motor vehicle brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will render the brakes inoperative. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.

Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .
Use a suitable suction device to drain the reservoir before removal.
Disconnect the brake pressure switch electrical connector.
Disconnect the brake fluid level switch electrical connector.

NOTE: Cap the brake line and plug the master cylinder ports after disconnecting the brake line fittings.

Disconnect the brake line fittings.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft).
Remove the 2 brake master cylinder nuts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
Remove the brake master cylinder.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
