Pinpoint Test D: The Steering Wheel Control Switch Illumination Source Is Inoperative

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector(s).
  1. D1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1417 (LG/RD) FOR AN OPEN
    • Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218b.
    • Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280b.
    • Measure the resistance between the clockspring C218b-5, circuit 1417 (LG/RD), harness side and the SJB C2280b-10, circuit 1417 (LG/RD), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to  D3.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. D3 CHECK THE CLOCKSPRING FOR VOLTAGE
    • Remove the driver airbag module. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • Disconnect: Upper Clockspring.
    • Measure the resistance between the clockspring C218b, pin 4, component side and the upper clockspring connector pin 5, component side; and between the clockspring C218b pin 1, component side and the upper clockspring connector pin 5 component side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to  D4.

No  : INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. D4 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SWITCH HARNESS
    • Disconnect: Steering Wheel Speed Control Switches C203.
    • Disconnect: Steering Wheel Audio Switch C2111.
    • Measure the resistances between the upper clockspring connector, harness side and the steering wheel control switches, harness side; and between the upper clockspring connector, harness side and the audio control switch, harness side as follows:
CLOCKSPRING & STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SWITCHES CONNECTOR-PINOUTS REFERENCE

Switch Function Upper Clockspring Connector Pin Switch Connector-Pin
      Speed Control Switches 4 C203-4
      Speed Control Switches 5 C203-5
      Audio Control Switch 4 C2111-1
      Audio Control Switch 5 C2111-2
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes  : INSTALL a new steering wheel control switch. For the audio control switch, REFER to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM . For the speed control switches, REFER to SPEED CONTROL . INSTALL the driver air bag module. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.

No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new steering wheel control switch harness. INSTALL the driver air bag module. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.
