Removal and Installation

    Both cables (all engines) 

  1. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to BATTERY TRAY  in this section.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .

    3. Battery ground cable (all engines) 

  3. Remove the bolt and position the battery ground cable body terminal aside.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the battery ground cable locator from the engine mount reinforcement.
  5. Remove the bolt and position the battery ground cable engine terminal aside.
    • To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  6. Remove the battery ground cable.

    7. Positive battery cable (all engines) 

  7. Remove the nut and position the battery junction box (BJB) terminal aside.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  8. Disconnect the positive battery cable to the engine control harness connector.
  9. Remove the positive battery cable starter solenoid terminal nut.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  10. Remove the positive battery cable starter solenoid wire terminal nut.
    • To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  11. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the starter solenoid.
  12. Remove the 2 positive battery cable clips from the engine oil dipstick tube.

    13. Positive battery cable (2.0L and 2.3L engines) 

  13. Remove the positive battery cable shield from the 2 valve cover stud bolts.

    14. Positive battery cable (2.0L PZEV engine) 

  14. Remove the positive battery cable locator from the valve cover stud bolt.

    15. Positive battery cable (all engines) 

  15. Remove the positive battery cable clip from the engine control harness.
  16. Remove the positive battery cable locator from the generator bracket.
  17. Position aside the generator B+ boot, remove the nut and position the generator B+ terminal aside.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  18. Remove the positive battery cable.
  19. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
