Stabilizer Bar: Installation

    CAUTION: The stabilizer bar bushings must be positioned correctly on the flats of the stabilizer bar.
    CAUTION: Do not apply any type of lubricant to the stabilizer bar or bushings.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar bushings.
  2. Position the stabilizer bar with the bushings against the spacer and set it to the specification listed using tie straps or mechanic's wire.

  3. Position the stabilizer bar brackets and install the bolts.
    • Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the stabilizer bar supports.
  5. Using the special tools, align the subframe.
    1. Insert the guide pins through the subframe alignment holes.
    2. Slide the locking plates into the grooves and tighten the guide pin sleeve.
    3. Raise the subframe, engaging the guide pins into the chassis alignment holes.

    6. NOTE: Do not fully tighten the subframe retaining bolts at this time.
  6. Install the subframe retaining bolts until snug.
  7. Remove the subframe RH alignment pin.
    8. CAUTION: While tightening the subframe retaining bolts, make sure the subframe does not move.
  8. Tighten the subframe retaining bolts.
    • Tighten the 4 front bolts to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
    • Tighten the 2 rear bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
  9. Lower and remove the transmission jack.
  10. Remove the subframe LH alignment pin.
  11. Install the transaxle RH support insulator bolt.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
    12. CAUTION: Make sure the ball joint heat shield is installed on the lower arm to prevent damage to the ball joint.
  12. Remove the special tool, position the heat shield on the wheel knuckle, insert the ball joint stud into the wheel knuckle and install the ball joint bolt and nut.
    • Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
  13. Attach the stabilizer bar links to the stabilizer bar and install the nuts.
    • Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
    14. WARNING: Install new tie-rod end nuts. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  14. Attach the tie-rod ends to the wheel knuckles and install the nuts.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
    15. WARNING: Install a new steering column shaft bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  15. Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear pinion extension and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
  16. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES .
