Removal and Installation

CAUTION: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants, or premature failure of the power steering components can result.

    All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Early build vehicles 

  3. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering fluid return hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  4. Late build vehicles 

  5. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering low pressure hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  6. All vehicles 

  7. Using the special tool, release and disconnect the power steering fluid cooler hose spring lock connector.

  8. Remove the bolts, the pin-type retainers and the lower air deflector.
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and the power steering fluid cooler.
    • To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).

  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  11. Fill and leak check the power steering system. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
