Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Mercury Mariner and 2008 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The mass air flow (MAF) directly measures the mass of the air flowing into the engine. The MAF sensor output is a D.C. (analog) signal ranging from about 0.5 volt to 5.0 volts used by the PCM to calculate the injector pulse width for air/fuel ratio. For transaxle strategies, the MAF sensor is used for electronic pressure control (EPC), shift and TCC scheduling.
