Removal And Installation

CAUTION:
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
CAUTION:
Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) module can be damaged if exposed to these charges.
All vehicles
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Remove the air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 2.3L article or INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 3.0L (4V) article.
- Disconnect the brake tube-to-hydraulic control unit (HCU) fittings.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
- Remove the HCU-to-master cylinder brake tube fittings.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft).
- Remove the 3 HCU bracket-to-frame bolts.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the electrical connector by rotating the protective cover.
- Remove the 3 bracket-to-HCU bolts.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the HCU.
- Remove the 3 screws and the ABS module.
- To install, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
