Pinpoint Test C: Adjustable Brake Pedal Does Not Move

CAUTION: Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
  1. C1 CHECK THE MOTOR SOUND 
    • Allow 2 minutes for the thermal overload to reset.
    • Operate the adjustable pedal control switch.
    • Can the adjustable pedal motor be heard to operate? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C2.
    2. NO  : Go to  C5.
  2. C2 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL CABLE INSTALLATION 
    • Check the brake pedal cable for correct installation.
    • Is the brake pedal cable correctly installed? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C3.
    2. NO  : CORRECT the brake pedal cable installation. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. C3 CHECK THE ADJUSTABLE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SYSTEM 
    • Disconnect the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable.

    • Operate the adjustable pedal control switch.
    • Does the adjustable accelerator pedal operate now? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new adjustable brake pedal assembly. REFER to HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C4.
  4. C4 INSPECT FOR FOREIGN MATERIAL 
    • Inspect the adjustable accelerator pedal assembly for foreign material causing a binding condition.
    • Was any foreign material found? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the foreign material. RETEST for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C5.
  5. C5 CHECK THE CABLE 
    • Inspect the end of the brake pedal motor cable for wear or damage.
    • Is the cable end OK? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C6.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new accelerator pedal cable. REFER to ACCELERATION CONTROL article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. C6 ISOLATE THE CONDITION 
    • Determine the position of the adjustable pedal.
    • Is the pedal stopped in a mid-range position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C7.
    2. NO  : If the pedal is in the full forward position, go to  C12. If the pedal is in the full rearward position, go to  C14.
  7. C7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1567 (RD/LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Key in ACCESSORY position.
    • Measure the voltage between adjustable pedal switch C2089-2, circuit 1567 (RD/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C8.
    2. NO  : VERIFY CJB fuse 1 is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 1567 (RD/LB) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. C8 CHECK THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SWITCH FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Press the switch to the forward and rearward positions.
    • Measure the resistance between the adjustable pedal switch terminals 2 and 7 (forward); and between terminals 2 and 1 (rearward), component side.
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C9.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new adjustable pedal switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. C9 CHECK THE CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Measure the resistance between adjustable pedal switch C2089-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; and between adjustable pedal switch C2089-6, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms at both terminals? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C10.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation
  10. C10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1490 (LB/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Motor C2003
    • Measure the resistance between adjustable pedal switch C2089-1, circuit 1490 (LB/OG), harness side and adjustable pedal motor C2003-2, circuit 1490 (LB/OG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  C11.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1490 (LB/OG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  11. C11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1490 (LB/OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Measure the voltage between adjustable pedal switch C2089-1, circuit 1490 (LB/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit 1490 (LB/OG) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C6.
  12. C12 CHECK THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SWITCH REARWARD POSITION FOR A SHORT 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Measure the resistance between the adjustable pedal switch terminals 1 and 2 component side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new adjustable pedal switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C13.
  13. C13 CHECK CIRCUIT 1489 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Measure the voltage between adjustable pedal switch C2089-7, circuit 1489 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C6.
  14. C14 CHECK THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL SWITCH FOR A SHORT 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Measure the resistance between the adjustable pedal switch terminals 1 and 7 component side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new adjustable pedal switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  C15.
  15. C15 CHECK CIRCUIT 1489 (LB/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Switch C2089
    • Disconnect: Adjustable Pedal Motor C2003
    • Measure the resistance between adjustable pedal switch C2089-7, circuit 1489 (LB/BK), harness side and adjustable pedal motor C2003-1, circuit 1489 (LB/BK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new adjustable pedal motor.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1489 (LB/BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
