Vehicle Security Module (VSM) - Regular Cab: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and 2007 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
NOTE:
Prior to the removal of the module, it is necessary to upload the module configuration information to a scan tool. This information must be downloaded into the new VSM after installation. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION
article, to carry out programmable module installation (PMI).
NOTE:
For vehicle security module (VSM) programming, refer to steps a-d below.
- Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
- Open the drivers door.
- Unlock the doors using the interior door lock control switch.
- B2477 (Module Configuration Failure)

- B2869 (Right Front Tire Pressure Sensor Fault)
- B2870 (Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Fault)
- B2871 (Left Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Fault)
- C2780 (ECU in Manufacturer Sub-state)
- Upload the module configuration information from the VSM into the scan tool. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION article.
- Turn the key to the OFF position.
- Remove the LH B-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
- Disconnect the 3 (built before 12/2006) or 2 (built after 12/2006) VSM electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 screws and the VSM.
NOTE:
The TPMS functionality is integral to the VSM.
NOTE:
A new VSM is delivered into a manufacturing mode with 6 pre-set DTCs. These DTCs require that successful configuration of the VSM occurs, then successful TPMS sensor training occurs, then a successful self-test occurs, including clearing of DTCs. This is required in order to clear the 6 manufacturing mode DTCs. They are as follows:
NOTE:
If it is necessary to install new VSM mounting screw J-clips, they are available using part number W520822.
