Pinpoint Test B: The Engine Does Not Crank And The Relay Does Not Click

  1. B1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1093 (TN/RD) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Starter Motor Relay.
    • Key in START position.
    • Measure the voltage between the starter motor relay pin 86, circuit 1093 (TN/RD) and ground while holding the key in the START position.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B7.
    • No  : GO to B2.
  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 325 (DB/OG) FOR VOLTAGE AT THE DIGITAL TR SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Digital TR Sensor C167.
    • Key in START position.
    • Measure the voltage between the digital TR sensor C167 pin 10, circuit 33 (W/PK) and ground while holding the key in the START position.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to B3.
    • No  : GO to  B5.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1093 (TN/RD) FOR OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the digital TR sensor C167 pin 12, circuit 1093 (TN/RD) and the starter motor relay pin 86, circuit 1093 (TN/RD).

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to B4.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1093 (TN/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK DIGITAL TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR ADJUSTMENT 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new digital TR sensor. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : ADJUST the digital TR as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1050 (LG/P) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the ignition switch connector C250 pin 4, circuit 1050 (LG/P) and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to B6.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1050 (LG/P). TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 32 (RD/LB)/33 (W/PK). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : INSTALL a new ignition switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK THE RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the voltage between the starter motor relay pin 85, circuit 325 (DB/OG) and pin 86, circuit 1093 (TN/RD).

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new starter motor relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to B8.
  8. B8 CHECK CIRCUIT 325 (DB/OG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: PCM C175e.
    • Measure the resistance between the PCM C175e pin 34, circuit 325 (DB/OG) and the starter motor relay pin 85, circuit 325 (DB/OG).

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new starter motor relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 325 (DB/OG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
