Instrument Panel: Removal

  1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
  2. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the 4 screws and position the gearshift lever boot aside.

  3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolts and the upper gearshift lever.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors and feed the connectors into the passenger compartment from the engine compartment.

  5. Disconnect the central junction box (CJB) cable at the junction block from the engine compartment.
    • Remove the nut.
    • Feed the cable into the passenger compartment.

  6. Release the instrument panel harness locator from the pedal bracket.

  7. Release the harness locator from the powertrain control module (PCM) bracket.

  8. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates.
  9. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
    1. Remove the pin-type retainers.
    2. Remove the A-pillar lower trim panels.

  10. Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrips aside.

  11. NOTE: The antenna cable will be removed with the instrument panel.

    Remove the antenna base. For additional information, refer to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM .

  12. Position the RH front fender splash shield away from the dash panel.
    1. Remove the 3 nuts.
    2. Remove the screws.
    3. Remove the pin-type retainers.
    4. Position the front fender splash shield away from the dash panel.

  13. Route the antenna cable into the passenger compartment.
    1. Unseat the antenna cable grommet from the dash panel.
    2. Route the antenna cable into the passenger compartment.

  14. CAUTION: Use care when removing the instrument panel steering column cover or damage to the cover locating tab may occur.
  15. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
    • Remove the instrument panel steering column cover by pulling toward the rear of the vehicle and then downward.

  16. Position the CJB aside.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    2. Release the tab.

  17. Disconnect the CJB electrical connectors.

  18. Disconnect the in-line electrical connector.

  19. Position the parking brake release handle aside.
    1. Remove the nuts.
    2. Position the parking brake release handle aside.

  20. Install the CJB.

  21. Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.

  22. Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.

  23. If equipped, disconnect the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch electrical connector.

  24. Through the steering column opening, disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.

  25. If equipped, disconnect the adjustable pedal motor electrical connector.

  26. If equipped, disconnect the adjustable pedal motor harness electrical connector.

  27. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  28. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
    1. Remove and discard the steering column intermediate shaft bolt.
      • To install, tighten a new bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
    2. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.

  29. If equipped, disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
    1. Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.

  30. Remove the electronic crash sensor (ECS) module cover.

  31. Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector.
    1. Remove the locking clip.
    2. Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector.

  32. Lower the glove compartment.
    1. Open the glove compartment.
    2. While releasing the glove compartment stops, lower the glove compartment.

  33. Disconnect the blend door actuator harness connector.

  34. Disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.

  35. Close the glove compartment.
    1. Depress the glove compartment stops.
    2. Close the glove compartment.

  36. Disconnect the RH cowl side electrical connectors.

  37. Remove the RH ground bolt.

  38. Remove the RH cowl side bolt cover.

  39. Remove the auto lamp sunload sensor finish panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  40. Remove the instrument panel cowl top bolts.
    1. Remove the cowl top attaching bolt covers.
    2. Remove the bolts.

  41. Remove the LH instrument panel end finish panel.

  42. Remove the LH instrument panel center support bolt.

  43. Remove the upper RH instrument panel cowl side bolt.

  46. NOTE: This step requires an assistant.
  47. Remove the instrument panel.
