Pinpoint Test V: The Reversing Lamps Are On Continuously

  1. V1 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP RELAY OUTPUT 
    • Disconnect: Reversing Lamp Relay
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : GO to V2.

    No  : GO to  V4.

  2. V2 CHECK THE CJB OUTPUT 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270g.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : GO to V3.

    No  : INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. V3 CHECK CIRCUIT 140 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Battery Junction Box Fuse 20 (10A).
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : REPAIR circuit 140 (BK/PK). TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : REPAIR circuit 963 (BK/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. V4 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP RELAY 
    • Carry out the reversing lamp relay component test.
    • Is the reversing lamp relay OK? 

    Yes  : GO to V5.

    No  : INSTALL a new reversing lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. V5 CHECK THE CJB 
    • Connect: Reversing Lamp Relay C2257.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270f.
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : GO to V6.

  6. V6 CHECK CIRCUIT 324 (YE/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Connect: CJB C270f.
    • Disconnect: PCM C175b or C1381b (Automatic Transmission).
    • Disconnect: Reversing Lamp Switch C169 (Manual Transmission).
    • Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : If equipped with a manual transmission, INSTALL a new reversing lamp switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

    If equipped with an automatic transmission, GO to V7.

  7. V7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - GASOLINE ENGINES or ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - DIESEL ENGINE . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
