Pinpoint Test A: The Power Seat Is Inoperative
- A1 CHECK THE POWER SEAT OPERATION WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
- Depower the SRS. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING in the General Procedures.
- Disconnect the affected seat side air bag C315 (driver) or C316 (passenger).
- Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to the affected seat side air bag C315 (driver) or C316 (passenger).
- Connect the battery ground cable.
- Operate the power seat from the seat control switch.
- Does the power seat move in any direction?
WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.Yes : VERIFY the symptom. GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
No : GO to A2.
- For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
- A2 CHECK FOR POWER TO THE DRIVER SEAT CONTROL SWITCH
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C519.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C627.
- Measure the voltage between driver seat control switch C519-11, circuit 517 (BK/WH), harness side and ground; or between passenger seat control switch C627-11, circuit 517 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to A3.
No : VERIFY the battery junction box (BJB) circuit breaker 601 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 517 (BK/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- A3 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between driver seat control switch C519-7, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; or between passenger seat control switch C627-7, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to A4.
No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- A4 CHECK THE SEAT TRACK FOR AN OBSTRUCTION
- Inspect the seat track for damage or an obstruction.
- Is the seat track OK?
Yes : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to SEAT CONTROL SWITCH for vehicles without power recline. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
No : INSTALL a new seat track. REFER to SEAT TRACK . TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C315 or passenger seat side air bag module C316. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
