Pinpoint Test F: DTC B1213 - Passive Anti-Theft System (Pats) Number Of Programmed Keys Is Below Minimum

  1. F1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Clear PCM Continuous DTCs.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Retrieve the PCM DTCs.
    • Is DTC B1213 retrieved? 

    Yes  : GO to F2.

    No  : If other than PATS PCM DTCs are retrieved, REFER to the INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE article. If no PATS DTCs are retrieved, the PATS is OK.

  2. F2 CHECK THE NUMBER OF KEYS ENCODED - MONITOR THE PCM PIDS NUMKEYS AND MIN_NUM_KEYS 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: PID/DATA RECEIVE and MONITOR.
    • Monitor the PCM PIDS NUMKEYS and MIN_NUM_KEYS.
    • Is the PCM PID NUMKEYS display less than the PCM PID_MIN_KEYS? 

    Yes  : GO to F3.

    No  : The system is OK.

  3. F3 PROGRAM THE ENCODED IGNITION KEYS 
      NOTE: Two programmed encoded ignition keys must be available to start the vehicle.
    • If only one key is available from the customer, cut a new encoded PATS ignition key.
    • Cycle the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position.
    • Program the new encoded ignition key. Refer to KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT .
    • Does the anti-theft indicator illuminate for 3 seconds and then go out? 

    Yes  : CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position to verify all codes are cleared. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

    No  : GO to F4.

  4. F4 CHECK FOR A REPAIR MODULE - MONITOR THE PCM PID SERV-MOD 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: PID/DATA RECEIVE and MONITOR.
    • Monitor the PCM PID SERV-MOD.
    • Does the PCM PID PASSIVE SERV-MOD indicate YES? 

    Yes  : PROGRAM the encoded ignition keys. REFER to KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

    No  : If the anti-theft indicator is illuminated continuously, REPEAT Step  F3 using a new encoded ignition key.

    If the anti-theft indicator is flashing, RETRIEVE the PCM DTC stored for the new PATS fault. REFER to the POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX .
