WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P1705 - TRANSMISSION RANGE CIRCUIT NOT INDICATING PARK/NEUTRAL DURING SELF-TEST

Description:  The PCM checks the gear position when a KOER self-test is requested. The test fails when the gear indicated by the transmission range (TR) sensor is other than PARK.
Possible Causes:
  • Gear selector not in PARK.
  • Damaged TR sensor/gear selector assembly.
Diagnostic Aids:  The KOER self-test executes only in PARK. Make sure the gear selector is in PARK. Repair the TR DTCs first. Make sure the sensor/gear selector assembly does not have any mechanical concerns.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
All The KOEO self-test was not executed because the transmission range (TR) sensor did not indicate PARK. Repair any TR sensor/gear selector assembly concerns. Repeat KOEO self-test with the transmission in PARK.
