Test Procedure

- C1 PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0830 OR P0833
- The DTCs P0830 and P0833 are set if the powertrain control module (PCM) does not detect a CPP switch change of state during the Key On Engine Running (KOER) self-test.
- Possible causes:
- clutch pedal not fully applied and released during the self-test
- signal circuit open or shorted
- CPP switch
- PCM
- Carry out a visual inspection.
- Retrieve and record any continuous and on-demand DTCs.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Carry out the KOER self-test.
Are DTCs P0830 or P0833 present?
Yes No For DTC P0830, GO to C2.
For DTC P0833, GO to C7.UNABLE to duplicate the condition. CHECK for a loose connection, and damaged or corroded terminals. WIGGLE the harness attempting to recreate the fault. REPAIR as necessary. REFER to SYMPTOM CHARTS , if a driveability concern exists. - C2 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- CPP Switch connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) CPP Switch Connector, Harness Side ( - ) CPP-BT - Pin 5 Ground
Is the voltage between 4.5 - 5.5 V?
Yes No GO to C3. GO to C4. - C3 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) CPP Switch Connector, Harness Side ( - ) GND - Pin 6 Ground
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No INSTALL a new CPP switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. REPEAT the self-test. - C4 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) CPP Switch Connector, Harness Side CPP-BT - Pin B27 CPP-BT - Pin 5
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to C5. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - C5 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to C6. REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - C6 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) CPP-BT - Pin B27 Ground
Is any voltage indicated?
Yes No REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test.GO to C11. - C7 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- CPP Switch connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) CPP Switch Connector, Harness Side ( - ) VPWR - Pin 3 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V?
Yes No GO to C8. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - C8 CHECK THE CPP SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) CPP Switch Connector, Component Side ( - ) CPP Switch Connector, Component Side VPWR - Pin 3 CPP-TT - Pin 4 - Apply and release the clutch pedal.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the clutch pedal released and greater than 10K ohms with the clutch pedal fully applied?
Yes No GO to C9. INSTALL a new CPP switch. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - C9 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) CPP Switch Connector, Harness Side CPP-TT - Pin B36 CPP-TT - Pin 4
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to C10. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - C10 CHECK THE CPP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) CPP-TT - Pin B36 Ground
Is any voltage indicated?
Yes No REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test.GO to C11. - C11 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Visually inspect for:
- pushed out pins
- corrosion
- Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Carry out the PCM self-test and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) . The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
