Hinge Adjustment - Front

XG-4 and/or XL-5
ESB-M1C93-B
NOTE: To correctly align the doors, adjust the hinges and the door latch striker plates. Adjusting the hinge affects the positioning of the outside surface of the door frame. Adjusting the door latch striker plate affects the alignment of the door relative to the weatherstrip and the door closing characteristics.
NOTE: If the door does not align correctly, carry out an underbody misalignment check. For additional information, refer to FULL FRAME & BODY MOUNTING article.
NOTE: Check the rear door hinge adjustment before adjusting the front door hinge.
NOTE: The door should be adjusted for even and parallel fit with the body opening and surrounding panels.
  1. Measure the clearances as specified.
  2. Fig 1: Clearance Specifications

  3. Loosen the door latch striker bolt.
  4. Remove the front fender. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS article.
  5. Mark the door hinge-to-body for reference.

  7. Remove the A-pillar lower trim panel.
  8. Position the 2 instrument panel harness electrical connectors and the insulator aside.
  9. Loosen the lower hinge nut.
  10. NOTE: The stud is fixed and cannot be adjusted.
  11. Loosen the door hinge-to-body bolts enough to permit movement.
  12. Adjust the door as necessary.
  13. Tighten the door hinge-to-body bolts.
    • Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
  14. Tighten the lower hinge-to-body nut.
    • Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
  15. Confirm the correct clearance as specified.

  17. Position the insulator and the instrument panel harness electrical connectors.
  18. Install the A-pillar lower trim panel.
  19. Install the front fender. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS article.
  20. Adjust the door latch striker plate as necessary.
  21. Tighten the door latch striker plate bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  22. Lubricate the hinges and door check arms with multi-purpose grease.
