Removal & Installation

WARNING:
Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery before disconnecting the starter motor battery terminal lead. If a tool is shorted at the starter motor battery terminal, the tool can quickly heat enough to cause a skin burn. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING:
Shut off the electrical power to the air suspension system prior to hoisting or jacking an air suspension equipped vehicle. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article.
- Remove the terminal cover on the starter solenoid.
- Remove the S-terminal nut and disconnect the wire.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Remove the B-terminal nut and disconnect the wire.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Remove the 3 bolts and the starter motor.
- To install, position the starter motor and install the 3 bolts finger-tight.
- Tighten the 2 upper bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
- Tighten the lower bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
