Pinpoint Test A: Vehicle Drifts/Pulls

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST A: VEHICLE DRIFTS/PULLS 

  1. A1 CHECK FOR UNEVENLY LOADED VEHICLE 
    • Visually check the vehicle for an uneven loading condition.
    • Is the vehicle unevenly loaded? 
    1. YES  : ADVISE the customer of uneven loading condition.
    2. NO  : Go to  A2.
  2. A2 CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE 
    • Check the tire pressures. Refer to the Vehicle Certification (VC) label located on the driver door jamb.
    • Is the tire pressure OK? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A3.
    2. NO  : ADJUST the tire pressures to the specified pressure.
  3. A3 ISOLATE TIRE PULL CONDITION 
    • Cross-rotate the wheel and tire assemblies from front-to-rear. Refer to WHEELS & TIRES article.
    • Does the vehicle pull/drift? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A4.
    2. NO  : The concern has been corrected.
  4. A4 CHECK FOR BRAKE DRAG 
    • Spin all 4 wheel and tire assemblies by hand and check for brake drag.
    • Does the wheel spin freely? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A5.
    2. NO  : REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article to diagnose brake drag condition.
  5. A5 CHECK THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT 
    • Using alignment equipment and the manufacturer's instructions, check the wheel alignment.
    • Is the wheel alignment within specification? 
    1. YES  : REFER to STEERING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article to diagnose steering system drift/pull condition.
    2. NO  : ADJUST the alignment as necessary. REFER to GENERAL PROCEDURES .
