Removal And Installation: Clockspring: Removal

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. Depower the SRS  . For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
  2. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE .
  3. Tilt the steering wheel in the downward position and lock the tilt handle.
  4. NOTE: To prevent damage to the clockspring make sure the road wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
  5. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
  6. NOTE: The upper steering column shroud is a 2-piece design and must be removed as an assembly.
  7. Release the tabs and remove the 2-piece upper steering column shroud as an assembly.
  8. Remove the 3 lower steering column shroud screws. Then release the tilt column locking lever and remove the lower steering column shroud.
  9. Disconnect the clockspring electrical connector.
  10. Remove the 2 screws and clockspring.
