Test Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2005 Ford RV Cutaway, 2005 Ford Pickup, 2005 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2005 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2005 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. H1 PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS FOR DTCS P0107 OR P0108
    • Carry out a visual inspection.
    • Retrieve and record all DTCs.
    • Record the freeze frame data.
    • Clear all the DTCs.
    • Carry out the KOEO on-demand self-test.

Are DTCs P0107 or P0108 present?

    Yes No
    For P0107, GO to  H2.
    For P0108, GO to  H6.
UNABLE to duplicate the condition. CHECK for a loose connection, and damaged or corroded terminals. WIGGLE the harness attempting to recreate the fault. REPAIR as necessary. REFER to SYMPTOM CHARTS - 6.0L DIESEL if a driveability concern exists.
  2. H2 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0107
NOTE: Refer to Figure for PCM and component connector pin numbers at the beginning of this pinpoint test.
    • Possible causes:
      • signal circuit short to ground
      • VREF circuit open
      • BARO sensor
      • PCM
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the BARO sensor.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between the BARO sensor reference voltage circuit pin 2, harness side and the BARO sensor signal return circuit pin 1, harness side.

Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.5 volts?

    Yes No
GO to  H3. REPAIR the open or short in the reference voltage or signal return circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  3. H3 SIMULATE THE OPPOSITE DTC
    • Key OFF.
    • Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between the BARO sensor reference voltage circuit pin 2, harness side and the BARO sensor signal circuit pin 3, harness side.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Carry out the KOEO on-demand self-test.

    Is DTC P0108 present?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new BARO sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to  H4.
  4. H4 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the PCM body connector.
    • Measure the resistance between the BARO sensor signal circuit pin 3, harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

    Yes No
GO to  H5. REPAIR the short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. H5 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between the BARO sensor signal circuit pin 3, harness side and the PCM body connector pin 38, harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. H6 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0108
NOTE: Refer to Figure for PCM and component connector pin numbers at the beginning of this pinpoint test.
    • Possible causes:
      • circuit short to voltage
      • open in signal return circuit
      • BARO sensor
      • PCM
    • Key OFF.
    • Simulate opposite DTC.
    • Disconnect the BARO sensor.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Carry out the on-demand self-test.

    Is DTC P0107 present?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new BARO sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to  H7.
  7. H7 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    • Key OFF.
    • Disconnect the PCM body connector.
    • Key ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between BARO sensor signal circuit pin 3, harness side and ground.

    Is any voltage indicated?

    Yes No
REPAIR the short to voltage. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to  H8.
  8. H8 CHECK THE SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Key OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between the BARO sensor signal return circuit pin 1, harness side and the PCM body connector pin 33, harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes No
INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
