  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical
    • Low oil level
    • Leaking oil pan gasket
    • Leaking engine front cover gasket
    • Leaking engine rear cover gasket
    • Leaking turbocharger oil supply tube
    • Leaking valve cover gaskets
    • Leaking crankshaft front main seal
    • Leaking crankshaft rear main seal
    • Leaking oil cooler cover gasket
    • Leaking high-pressure cover gasket

  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern is not visually evident, check the base oil pressure.
  5. Fig 1: Identifying Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) Sensor

  6. Remove the Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor. Install the High-Pressure Pump Test Adapter.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
  7. NOTE: Use a backup wrench on the High-Pressure Pump Test Adapter when installing the oil pressure gauge or engine damage can occur.
  8. Install a commercially available oil pressure gauge and check the base oil pressure. The minimum engine oil pressure specifications are 82.7 kPa (12 psi) at 700 rpm, 165.5 kPa (24 psi) at 1,200 rpm and 310.3 kPa (45 psi) at 1,800 rpm with the engine at operating temperature.
  9. Remove the oil pressure gauge and High-Pressure Pump Test Adapter. Install the EOT sensor.
    • Tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).
  10. If the concern is not evident, verify the symptom. Go to Symptom Chart .
