Valve Cover - LH: Removal

- Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION article.
- Remove the engine air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
- Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the PCV valve tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Remove the 2 bolts and position the LH fuel charging wiring harness aside.
- Disconnect the LH 5 fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the LH 5 ignition coil electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the push pin retainers from the PCM bracket.
- Lift the fuel charging wiring harness off the valve cover studs.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube support bracket nut.
- Remove the bolt and position the oil level indicator and tube aside.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the valve cover studs.
- Remove the LH valve cover.
- Fully loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.
- Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to clean the sealing surfaces.
NOTE:
The fasteners are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.
