Removal And Installation

  1. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses from the engine oil cooler.
  4. Remove and discard the oil filter.
    • To install, tighten to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft).
  5. CAUTION: If metal, aluminum or foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, Refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article. Failure to follow this instruction may result in additional engine damage.
  6. Remove the threaded insert and discard the oil cooler.
    • Inspect and discard the oil cooler.
    • To install, tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft).
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new oil cooler.
    • Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil prior to filling the cooling system.
