Pinpoint Test G: An Individual Button/Feature Is Inoperative From The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- G1 CHECK FOR THE INOPERATIVE RKE TRANSMITTER BUTTON/FEATURE
- Press the lock and unlock button on the RKE transmitter while observing the door lock operation.
- Do the door locks operate correctly?
- G2 VERIFY THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION
- Press the lock and unlock button from the driver door lock control switch while observing the door lock operation.
- Do the door locks operate correctly?
- YES : REPLACE the inoperative RKE transmitter. PROGRAM all the RKE transmitter(s). REFER to Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to Symptom Chart .
- G3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED VSM DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SELF-TESTS
- Check for recorded VSM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Is DTC B1218 recorded?
- G4 CHECK THE HORN OPERATION
- Press the horn switch.
- Does the horn operate correctly?
- G5 CHECK THE PARKING LAMP OPERATION
- Turn the parking lamps on.
- Do the parking lamps operate correctly?
- YES : Go to G6.
- NO : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING article.
- G6 VERIFY THE PANIC FEATURE OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Press the panic button on the RKE transmitter while monitoring the park lamps and horn.
- Are the park lamps and horn both inoperative during panic operation?
- YES : REPLACE the inoperative RKE transmitter. PROGRAM all the RKE transmitter(s). REFER to Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO
: If the horn is inoperative, go to G7.
If the parklamps are inoperative, go to G8.
- G7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1 (DB) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: VSM C2113b
- Measure the voltage between the VSM C2113b-9, circuit 1 (DB), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to G11.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G8 CHECK CIRCUIT 195 (TN/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: VSM C2113a
- Measure the voltage between the VSM C2113a-12, circuit 195 (TN/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to G9.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G9 CHECK CIRCUIT 14 (BN) FOR AN OPEN
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKLAMP position.
- Measure the voltage between the VSM C2113a-10, circuit 14 (BN), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to G11.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- G10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1 (DB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: VSM C2113b
- Disconnect: Horn Relay
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the VSM C2113b-9, circuit 1 (DB), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : Go to G11.
- G11 CHECK FOR CORRECT VSM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the VSM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the VSM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new VSM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
