Test Procedure
- HM1 CHECK FOR DTCS
Are DTCs P0410, P0412, P0491, P2257, P2258, or P2448 present?
Yes No For KOEO and KOER DTC P0412, GO to HM2.
For continuous memory DTC P0412, GO to HM10.
For DTC P2257, GO to HM38.
For DTC P2258, GO to HM50.
For DTCs P0410, P0491 or P2448, GO to HM18.For all others, GO to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS . - HM2 KOEO AND KOER DTC P0412: ISOLATE THE COMMAND SIGNAL CIRCUIT TO 1 COMPONENT AND REPEAT THE SELF-TEST NOTE: Only start at this step if you followed the PCM Quick Test direction and a KOEO or KOER DTC is present.
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Solenoid connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Carry out the KOEO self-test.
Is DTC P0412 present?
Yes No GO to HM3. INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM3 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR SOLENOID
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side AIR - Pin 1 VPWR - Pin 2
Is the resistance between 50 - 95 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM4. INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM4 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR SOLENOID
Is the voltage greater than 10 V?
Yes No GO to HM5. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM5 ISOLATE THE COMMAND SIGNAL CIRCUIT TO 1 COMPONENT AND REPEAT THE SELF-TEST
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Solenoid connector connected.
- AIR Relay connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Carry out the KOEO self-test.
Is DTC P0412 present?
Yes No GO to HM6. INSTALL a new AIR relay. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM6 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR RELAY
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Relay Connector, Component Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Component Side AIR - Pin 85 VPWR - Pin 86
Is the resistance between 40 - 80 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM7. INSTALL a new AIR relay. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM7 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR RELAY
Is the voltage greater than 10 V?
Yes No GO to HM8. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM8 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR CIRCUIT(S) FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Solenoid connector disconnected.
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 1 - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 85
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM9. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM9 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE AND GROUND IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) PCM Connector, Harness Side AIR VPWR AIR PWRGND AIR SIGRTN AIR VREF - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to HM64. REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM10 CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTC P0412: CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO GROUND NOTE: Only start at this step if you followed the PCM Quick Test direction and no KOEO or KOER DTC is present.NOTE: Open circuit and short to ground conditions are detected when the PCM output driver is OFF. The AIRF PID instantly shows a secondary AIR PCM output circuit open or short to ground concern - PCM output OFF.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR, AIRM and AIRF PIDs.
- Observe the PCM output driver fault PID AIRF. Wiggle the secondary AIR harness and connectors, and lightly tap the components while observing the AIRF PID.
Is a concern present?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.GO to HM11. - HM11 WIGGLE TEST ON THE AIR HARNESS SECONDARY AIR CIRCUIT LOOKING FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE CAUTION: Running the secondary AIR pump with OTM longer than 2 minutes may overheat and damage the secondary AIR pump. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .NOTE: The secondary AIR PCM output driver detects a short to voltage condition when the driver is on. The AIRF PID instantly shows a secondary AIR PCM output circuit short to voltage or low resistance short to voltage concern - PCM output ON.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe the PCM output driver fault PID AIRF. While commanding outputs on with OTM, wiggle the secondary AIR line harness and connectors, and lightly tap components while observing the AIRF PID.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is a concern present?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.GO to HM12. - HM12 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR SOLENOID
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Solenoid connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side AIR - Pin 1 VPWR - Pin 2
Is the resistance between 50 - 95 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM13. INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM13 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR SOLENOID
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Harness Side ( - ) VPWR - Pin 2 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 10 V?
Yes No GO to HM14. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM14 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR RELAY
- AIR Relay connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Relay Connector, Component Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Component Side AIR - Pin 85 VPWR - Pin 86
Is the resistance between 40 - 80 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM15. INSTALL a new AIR relay. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM15 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR RELAY
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side ( - ) VPWR - Pin 86 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 10 V?
Yes No GO to HM16. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM16 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- Key in OFF position.
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 1 - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 85
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM17. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM17 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR CIRCUITS FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE AND GROUND IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) PCM Connector, Harness Side AIR VPWR AIR PWRGND AIR SIGRTN AIR VREF - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No Unable to duplicate or identify the concern at this time. REPAIR the short circuit. GO to Pinpoint Test Z . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM18 DTCS P0410, P0491 AND P2448: VISUALLY INSPECT THE AIR SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND HOSES
- Visually inspect the AIR system components and hoses for damage, obstruction, and binding, including exhaust damage, cracking, a blocked AIR pump inlet hose, water, or ice.
Are the AIR system components and hoses OK?
Yes No GO to HM19. REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM19 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP OPERATION CAUTION: Running the AIR pump with OTM longer than 2 minutes may overheat and damage the AIR pump. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Listen for the AIR pump operation while toggling to OTM states from ON to OFF.
- Command the outputs ON.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Does AIR pump operation correspond with the OTM ON and OFF commands?
Yes No GO to HM20. GO to HM34. - HM20 MEASURE THE VACUUM AT THE AIR DIVERTER VALVE
- Connect a vacuum gauge to the control vacuum hose at the AIR diverter valve(s).
- Apply 54 kPa (16 in-Hg) of vacuum at the manifold side of the AIR bypass solenoid vacuum supply hose(s).
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe the vacuum gauge reading at the AIR diverter valve(s).
- Command the outputs OFF.
Is applied vacuum present at the AIR diverter valve(s)?
Yes No GO to HM23. EXIT output test mode.
GO to HM21. - HM21 MEASURE THE VACUUM AT THE AIR SOLENOID VALVE
- Connect a vacuum gauge to the control vacuum outlet at the AIR solenoid valve(s).
- Apply 54 kPa (16 in-Hg) of vacuum at the manifold side of the AIR bypass solenoid vacuum supply hose(s).
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe the vacuum gauge reading at the AIR solenoid valve.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is applied vacuum present at the AIR diverter valve(s)?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary the restricted vacuum duct, tubing or hoses between the AIR solenoid and the AIR diverter valve.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.GO to HM22. - HM22 MEASURE MANIFOLD VACUUM AT THE AIR SOLENOID VALVE
- Connect a vacuum gauge to the manifold vacuum hose at the AIR solenoid valve(s).
- Key ON, engine running.
Is the manifold vacuum greater than 47 kPa (14 in-Hg)?
Yes No GO to HM31. REPAIR the cause of the restriction.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM23 MEASURE THE VACUUM AT THE AIR DIVERTER VALVE - VACUUM RELEASE
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
- Observe the vacuum gauge reading at the AIR solenoid valve.
Is vacuum released - 0 kPa (0 in-Hg)?
Yes No GO to HM24. INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM24 CHECK THE AIR FLOW AT THE AIR DIVERTER VALVE(S) OUTLET WITH VACUUM APPLIED
- Disconnect the air hose from the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet side.
- Apply 53 kPa (16 in-Hg) of vacuum at the AIR diverter valve(s).
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe air flow at the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is air flow present at the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet?
Yes No GO to HM25. GO to HM26. - HM25 CHECK THE AIR FLOW AT THE AIR DIVERTER VALVE(S) OUTLET
- Disconnect the control vacuum hose from the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet side.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe air flow at the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is air flow present at the AIR diverter valve(s) outlet?
Yes No INSTALL a new appropriate AIR diverter valve (s). REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to HM29. - HM26 CHECK THE AIR FLOW AT THE AIR DIVERTER VALVE(S) INLET
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the air hose from the AIR diverter valve(s) inlet side.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe air flow at the AIR diverter(s) inlet hose.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is air flow present at the AIR diverter valve(s) inlet hose?
Yes No INSTALL a new appropriate AIR diverter valve (s). REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to HM27. - HM27 CHECK THE AIR FLOW AT THE AIR PUMP
- Disconnect the air hose from the AIR pump outlet side.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe air flow at the secondary AIR pump outlet.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is the air flow present at the AIR pump outlet?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary the restricted air flow duct, tubing or hoses between the AIR pump and the AIR diverter valve.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.GO to HM28. - HM28 CHECK THE AIR FLOW AT THE AIR PUMP WITH AIR HOSE DISCONNECTED FROM INLET SIDE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the air hose from the AIR pump inlet side.
- Inspect the air hose from the secondary AIR pump inlet side for restrictions or damage.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Observe air flow at the AIR pump outlet.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is the air flow present at the AIR pump outlet?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary the restricted air flow duct, tubing or hoses between the secondary AIR pump inlet and the secondary AIR pump. INSTALL a new secondary AIR pump. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM29 CHECK THE AIR DISTRIBUTION MANIFOLD INTEGRITY AT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD
- Key in OFF position.
- Check the AIR distribution manifold at the exhaust manifold for restrictions, blockage, or damage.
Is the AIR distribution manifold at the exhaust manifold restriction free?
Yes No GO to HM30. REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM30 CHECK FOR RESTRICTIONS IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Check for restrictions in the exhaust system.
Is the exhaust system restriction free?
Yes No GO to Pinpoint Test Z . REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM31 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE AIR SOLENOID
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Solenoid connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Component Side AIR - Pin 1 VPWR - Pin 2
Is the resistance between 50 - 95 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM32. INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM32 CHECK THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR INTEGRITY
- Inspect the AIR Solenoid harness connector and component connector.
- Check the electrical connector for damage, corrosion, and water intrusion.
Is a concern still present?
Yes No GO to HM33. REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM33 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR SOLENOID
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Harness Side ( - ) VPWR - Pin 2 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 10 V?
Yes No INSTALL a new AIR solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM34 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR INTEGRITY
- Check the secondary AIR pump electrical connector for damage, corrosion, and water intrusion.
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
Is the connector in good working order?
Yes No GO to HM35. REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM35 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) Secondary Air Pump Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR_GND - Pin 1 Ground
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM36. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM36 CHECK THE B+ VOLTAGE FROM THE SECONDARY AIR RELAY AT THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) Secondary Air Pump Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR_PWR - Pin 2 Ground - Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is the voltage above 10 V?
Yes No INSTALL a new Secondary Air Pump. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article .
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.GO to HM37. - HM37 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FOR WATER OR ICE CONTAMINATION NOTE: Water in the secondary AIR pump reduces the life of the pump.NOTE: The secondary AIR pump temperature must be above 0°C (32°F).
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the air hose from the secondary AIR pump inlet side.
- Disconnect the air hose from the secondary AIR pump outlet side.
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
- Tilt the secondary AIR pump assembly to a range of positions to see if any water is present.
Is water or evidence of ice present in the secondary AIR pump?
Yes No INSTALL a new secondary AIR pump.
INSPECT the secondary AIR pump hoses for proper routing and installation. REPAIR as necessary. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article .INSTALL a new secondary AIR pump. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM38 DTC P2257: CHECK THE AIR PID OPERATION WITH OTM CAUTION: Running the secondary AIR pump with OTM longer than 2 minutes may overheat and damage the secondary AIR pump. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR PID.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Observe the AIR PID while toggling the OTM state from ON to OFF.
- Command the outputs ON.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Does the AIR PID correspond with the OTM ON and OFF commands?
Yes No GO to HM39. GO to HM48. - HM39 CHECK THE AIRM PID OPERATION WITH THE OTM NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on followed by the PCM input signal AIRM PID. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the AIR pump/motor.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR and AIRM PIDs.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Observe the AIRM PID while toggling the OTM state from ON to OFF.
- Command the outputs ON.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Does the AIRM PID correspond with the OTM ON and OFF commands?
Yes No Unable to duplicate or identify the concern at this time.
GO to HM40.GO to HM41. - HM40 CARRY OUT A WIGGLE TEST ON THE AIR HARNESS NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on followed by the PCM input signal AIRM PID. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the AIR pump/motor.NOTE: Changing AIRM PID states indicates a concern location in the secondary side of the AIR relay circuit. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the AIR pump/motor.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR and AIRM PIDs.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- While commanding the outputs on with OTM, wiggle the AIRM line harness and connectors, and lightly tap the components while observing the AIRM PID.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is a concern present?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary. Unable to duplicate or identify the concern at this time. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to Pinpoint Test Z . - HM41 CHECK THE B+ AND VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE AIR RELAY
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Relay connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Measure the voltage between:
( + ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side ( - ) B+ - Pin 30 Ground VPWR - Pin 86 Ground
Are the voltages greater than 10 V?
Yes No GO to HM44. REPAIR the open circuit.
GO to HM42. - HM42 CHECK FOR AN ISOLATED B+ AIR FUSE CONCERN IN THE LAST STEP NOTE: An isolated B+ AIR fuse concern could be the result of frozen water in the secondary AIR pump.
Is a B+ secondary AIR fuse concern the only concern in the last step?
Yes No GO to HM43. The repair is complete. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM43 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FOR WATER OR ICE CONTAMINATION NOTE: Water in the secondary AIR pump reduces the life of the pump.NOTE: The secondary AIR pump temperature must be above 0°C (32°F).
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the air hose from the secondary AIR pump inlet side.
- Disconnect the air hose from the secondary AIR pump outlet side.
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
- Tilt the secondary AIR pump assembly to a range of positions to see if any water is present.
Is water or evidence of ice present in the secondary AIR pump?
Yes No INSTALL a new secondary AIR pump.
INSPECT the secondary AIR pump hoses for proper routing and installation. REFER to the appropriate ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL article .
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.The repair is complete. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM44 CHECK THE VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FROM THE AIR RELAY TO THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT
- Key in OFF position.
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side ( - ) Secondary Air Pump Connector, Harness Side AIR_PWR - Pin 87 AIR_PWR - Pin 2
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM45. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.

- Key in OFF position.

Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to HM47. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM47 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR MONITOR CIRCUIT AND THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN(S) IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side AIRM AIR_PWR - Pin 87 - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) Secondary Air Pump Connector, Harness Side AIRM AIR_PWR - Pin 2
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM64. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM48 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR CIRCUIT(S) FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Relay connector disconnected.
- AIR Solenoid connector disconnected.
- PCM connector disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Solenoid Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 1 - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Relay Connector, Harness Side AIR AIR - Pin 85
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM49. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - HM49 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE AND GROUND IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) PCM Connector, Harness Side AIR VPWR AIR PWRGND AIR SIGRTN AIR VREF - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to HM64. REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM50 DTC P2258: CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PID OPERATION WITH OTM CAUTION: Running the secondary AIR pump with OTM longer than 2 minutes may overheat and damage the secondary AIR pump. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR PID.
- Observe the AIR PID(s) while toggling the OTM states from ON to OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Does the AIR PID correspond with the OTM ON and OFF commands?
Yes No GO to HM51. GO to HM62. - HM51 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR MONITOR PID OPERATION WITH OTM NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on followed by the PCM input signal AIRM PID. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the AIR pump/motor.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR and AIRM PIDs.
- Observe the AIRM PID while toggling the OTM state from ON to OFF.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Does the AIRM PID correspond with the OTM ON and OFF commands?
Yes No GO to HM52. GO to HM53. - HM52 CARRY OUT A WIGGLE TEST ON THE SECONDARY AIR HARNESS NOTE: When the OTM outputs are commanded on, the PCM output signal AIR PID should turn on followed by the PCM input signal AIRM PID. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the secondary AIR pump.NOTE: Changing AIRM PID states indicates a concern location in the secondary side of the AIR relay circuit. The AIRM PID indicates voltage at the secondary AIR pump.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR and AIRM PIDs.
- Enter output test mode. Refer to OUTPUT TEST MODE (OTM) .
- Command the outputs ON.
- While commanding the outputs on with OTM, wiggle the AIRM line harness and connectors, and lightly tap the components while observing the AIRM PID.
- Command the outputs OFF.
- Exit output test mode.
Is a concern present?
Yes No REPAIR as necessary. Unable to duplicate or identify the concern at this time. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. GO to Pinpoint Test Z . - HM53 REMOVE THE SECONDARY AIR RELAY AND OBSERVE THE SECONDARY AIR MONITOR PID NOTE: The AIRM PID corresponds to PCM input AIRM line voltage indicating voltage to the AIR pump/motor and should be in the OFF state.
- Key in OFF position.
- AIR Relay connector disconnected.
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Access the PCM and monitor the AIR and AIRM PIDs.
Is the AIRM PID in the OFF state?
Yes No GO to HM54. GO to HM57. - HM54 CONFIRM THE SECONDARY AIR SIGNAL WITH A TEST LAMP
- Key ON, engine OFF.
- Connect a non-powered test lamp between:

Is the test lamp off?
Yes No INSTALL a new AIR relay. CLEAR the DTCs.

Is the voltage less than 0.1 V?

- Check the secondary AIR pump electrical connector for damage, corrosion, and water intrusion.
- Secondary Air Pump connector disconnected.
Is the connector in good working order?
Yes No GO to HM59. REPAIR as necessary.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - HM59 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) Secondary Air Pump Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR_GND - Pin 1 Ground
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes No GO to HM60. REPAIR the open circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.

REPEAT the self-test. - HM63 CHECK THE SECONDARY AIR FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE AND GROUND IN THE HARNESS
- Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) PCM Connector, Harness Side AIR VPWR AIR PWRGND AIR SIGRTN AIR VREF - Measure the resistance between:
( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) AIR Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes No GO to HM64. REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
REPEAT the self-test. - Measure the resistance between:
- HM64 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Visually inspect for:
- pushed out pins
- corrosion
- Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Carry out the PCM self-test and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes No INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to FLASH ELECTRICALLY ERASABLE PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY (EEPROM) . The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
