Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Remove the flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to FLYWHEEL  or FLEXPLATE  in this article.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND TUBE  in this article.
    4. CAUTION: If the oil pan is not removed damage to the rear oil seal retainer joint can occur.
  4. Remove the 17 bolts and the oil pan.
  5. Remove the 6 bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal with retainer plate.
