Removal and Installation

    All vehicles 

    NOTE: The thermostat and thermostat housing are serviced as an assembly.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING  in this article.
  3. Remove the 2 bolts and the accessory drive belt splash shield.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  4. Early build vehicles 

  5. Using the pulley bolt, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.

  6. Late build vehicles 

  7. Using the hex feature, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.

  8. All vehicles 

  9. Remove the 2 nuts and position aside the power steering tube.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  10. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud. For additional information, refer to COOLING FAN MOTOR AND SHROUD  in this article.
  11. Remove the 2 bolts, the stud bolt and position aside the A/C compressor.
    • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  12. Release the spring-style clamps and disconnect the radiator and heater hoses from the thermostat housing.
  13. Remove the 3 bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat as an assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  14. NOTE: Lubricate the thermostat housing O-ring with clean engine coolant.
  15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  16. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING  in this article.
