Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

The instrument cluster receives the MIL status from the PCM over the communication network. The PCM sends a command to the instrument cluster to illuminate the MIL indicator when a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is registered in the PCM that affects exhaust emissions.
