Pinpoint Test Y: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. Y1 CHECK CIRCUIT 29-GG14 (OG) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220-28, circuit 29-GG14 (OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : GO to  Y2.

No  : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuse 36 (7.5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  2. Y2 CHECK CIRCUIT 75-GG14 (YE/BU) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in ACCESSORY position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220-6, circuit 75-GG14 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : GO to  Y3.

No  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 41 (7.5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  3. Y3 CHECK CIRCUIT 15-GG14 (GN/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220-12, circuit 15-GG14 (GN/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : GO to  Y4.

No  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 61 (7.5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  4. Y4 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT 91-GG14 (BK/OG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C2220-30, circuit 91-GG14 (BK/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to  Y5.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  5. Y5 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?

Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.

No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
