Pinpoint Test A: The Safety Belt Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. A1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) SELF-TESTS 
    • Check the recorded RCM DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-test.
    • Are any DTCs retrieved? 

    Yes  : REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM to continue diagnosis of the DTCs.

    No  : GO to  A2.

  2. A2 CARRY OUT THE GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM) CHIME CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: GEM Active Command.
    • Select the GEM chime control active command. Trigger the chime active command on and off.
    • Does the chime operate correctly? 

    Yes  : GO to  A3.

    No  : GO to  A5.

  3. A3 CHECK FOR CORRECT RCM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the RCM connections.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the RCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : GO to  A4.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. A4 CHECK THE RCM OPERATION 
    • Install a known good RCM.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : GO to  A6.

    No  : INSTALL a new RCM. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the GEM connections.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the GEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new GEM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. A6 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connections.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
