Pinpoint Test A: The Parking Brake Will Not Apply
- A1 CHECK FOR A MISADJUSTED REAR PARKING BRAKE CABLE
- Operate the parking brake control several times to adjust the cable.
- Does the parking brake now engage correctly?
Yes : Vehicle OK.
No : GO to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL
- Inspect the apply and release mechanisms of the parking brake control.
- Does the parking brake control operate correctly?
Yes : GO to A3.
No : INSTALL a new parking brake control. REFER to PARKING BRAKE CONTROL in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A3 CHECK FOR WORN BRAKE SHOES OR PADS
- Inspect the brake shoes or pads for excessive wear. Refer to BRAKE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Are the brake shoes or pads OK?
Yes : CHECK for other causes such as loose parking brake cables or loose conventional brake system components. REFER to BRAKE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
No : INSTALL new brake shoes or pads. REFER to DRUM BRAKE for drum brakes or REAR DISC BRAKE for disc brakes. TEST the system for normal operation.
