Removal and Installation

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING in this article.
- Remove the thermostat housing. For additional information, refer to THERMOSTAT HOUSING - 3.0L (4V) in this article.
- Remove the bypass tube-to-thermostat housing hose.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt, stud bolt and bypass tube.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove and inspect the O-ring seals, install new seals if necessary.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine coolant.
