Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- A1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:
Connector/Pin Circuit C220a-5 1003 (GY/YE) C220b-9 3049 (BK/LG) C220b-16 640 (RD/YE) C220b-17 489 (PK/BK) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to A2.
- NO : VERIFY the CJB fuses 1 (10A), 15 (5A), 21 (15A), and 27 (5A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A2 CHECK CIRCUITS 57 (BK) AND 875 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-18, circuit 875 (BK/LB), harness side and ground; and between the instrument cluster C220a-17, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to A3.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
