Pinpoint Test E: The Instrument Cluster Illumination Is Inoperative
- E1 CHECK FOR POWER TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
- Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220a-3, circuit 1418 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes
: GO to E3.
- No
: GO to E2
.
- E2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1418 (LB/WH) FOR AN OPEN AND A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-3, circuit 1418 (LB/WH), harness side and the SJB C2280a-3, circuit 1418 (LB/WH), harness side, and between the instrument cluster C220a-3, circuit 1418 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the SJB, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground?
- Yes
: GO to E5.
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a-20, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes
: GO to E4
.
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats
- correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No
: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- E5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES
.
- No
: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
