Removal and Installation

    All vehicles 

  1. Position the instrument panel lower panel aside.
    • Remove the screws.
    • Release the fastener.

  2. Disconnect the hood release cable and the data link connector (DLC) from the instrument panel lower panel and remove the lower panel.
    • Loosen the hood release cable nut.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors and twist to remove the following switches:
    1. Speed control deactivation switch (if equipped)
    2. Stop lamp switch
    3. Clutch position switch (if equipped)

  4. Vehicles with manual transaxle 

    NOTE: The clutch position switch bracket is shown removed for clarity.

  5. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the pedal bracket.
    1. Remove the clip.
    2. Remove the bolts.
  6. Remove the clutch master cylinder actuating rod from the clutch pedal.

    All vehicles 

  7. Remove the brake booster retaining nuts.

  8. Remove the brake booster actuating rod from the brake pedal.
    1. Apply the brake pedal.
    2. Disengage the tab.
    3. Remove and discard the brake booster actuating rod pin.

    Vehicles with automatic transaxle 

  9. Remove the brake pedal retractor arm retaining bolt.
    • Remove the air duct, if necessary.

    All vehicles 

  10. Remove the brake pedal bracket.
  11. CAUTION: Install a new brake booster actuating rod pin.
    NOTE: Make sure the brake pedal locates into the brake booster actuating rod clevis.
  12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
