Pinpoint Test P: The LH Turn Signal Indicator Is Never/Always On

  1. P1 VERIFY THE TURN SIGNAL OPERATION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Verify the exterior turn signal operation.
    • Do the exterior turn signals operate correctly? 
      • Yes  : GO to  P2.
      • No  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the turn signals.
  2. P2 DETERMINE THE CONDITION 
    • Observe the LH turn signal operation.
    • Is the LH turn signal inoperative? 
      • Yes  : GO to  P3.
      • No  : If the LH turn signal indicator is always on, GO to  P5.
  3. P3 CHECK CIRCUIT 49S-LG15 (BU/BK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the LH turn signal position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220 pin 26, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Does the voltage fluctuate between 0 and greater than 10 volts? 
      • Yes  : GO to  P7.
      • No  : GO to  P4.
  4. P4 CHECK CIRCUIT 49S-LG15 (BU/BK) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Generic Electronic Module (GEM) C201d.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C2220 pin 26, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side and the GEM C201d pin 3, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C2220 pin 26, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the GEM, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? 
      • Yes  : GO to  P8.
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. P5 CHECK CIRCUIT 49S-LG15 (BU/BK) FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220 pin 26, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
      • Yes  : GO to  P6.
      • No  : GO to  P7.
  6. P6 CHECK CIRCUIT 49S-LG15 (BU/BK) FOR A SHORT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
    • Disconnect: GEM C201d.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C2220 pin 26, circuit 49S-LG15 (BU/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
      • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
      • No  : GO to  P8.
  7. P7 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect the instrument cluster connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
      • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. P8 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the GEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the GEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes  : INSTALL a new GEM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
      • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
