Instrument Panel: Removal

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the air bag control module backup power supply must be depleted. Wait at least 1 minute after disconnecting the battery before commencing any repair or adjustment to the supplemental restraint system, (SRS), or to any component(s) adjacent to the SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Always wear safety glasses when working on an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling an air bag module. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
WARNING: To minimize the possibility of premature deployment, do not use radio key code savers when working on the SRS. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Remove the passenger air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  3. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
  4. Remove the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
  5. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to FLOOR CONSOLE .
  6. Remove the audio unit. For additional information, refer to AUDIO UNIT .
  7. Remove the 3 screws and the glove compartment.

  8. Remove the 4 screws and the console center finish panel.

  9. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  10. CAUTION: When removing the instrument panel retainers, care must be taken to prevent damage to the instrument panel and windshield.

  11. Remove the instrument panel upper retaining clips.
    1. Install the M6 x 100 mm bolt.
    2. Using a suitable tool, lift upward on the bolt head to release the retaining clips from the dash panel.
  12. NOTE: The instrument panel screws are located as follows: 2 on each side, 2 within the instrument cluster recess, 2 within the passenger air bag recess, and 2 retaining the glove compartment striker.

  13. Remove the 10 instrument panel screws and the glove compartment striker.
  14. NOTE: An assistant is required to carry out this procedure.
  15. Disconnect the hazard switch and the headlamp switch electrical connectors and remove the instrument panel.
  16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
