Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  3. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the oil cooler.
  4. NOTE: Lubricate the new engine oil filter seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  5. Remove and discard the oil filter.
    • To install, tighten the oil filter 3/4 of a turn after the filter gasket makes contact with the oil filter adapter.
  6. CAUTION: If metal or aluminum foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  7. Remove and inspect the oil cooler.
    • To install, tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft).
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  9. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
